Later, the varsity came up with 100 bicycles to make environment eco-friendly. Heidi Exline said, ''Roads are not only meant for cars and heavy vehicles drivers but also for bicycle riders. This was definitely needed here. It is very important to involve everyone in the university.''
OP Munjal, chairman of a cycle company, said that former PAU vice-chancellor AS Cheema had a dream to combine industrial unit with agriculture and by this they had turned his dream into reality.
SK Rai, managing director of the same cycle manufacturing company, said that they were manufacturing five lakh motorcycles and three-four lakh three and four wheelers every month. ''Most of them are being sold in Ludhiana, adding to the pollution. This campaign will prove its worth in reducing pollution,'' he said. Kang said, ''I had seen this bike library in California in 1969 and there were 30,000 bikes in that library. It used to be a modern vehicle for the students. Since then it has been my dream to open it in our campus too.'' PPS Lubana, chief estate officer, said, ''this bike library will be helpful in making environment clean and green as this is economical and eco-friendly.
